The National Institute for Health and Care Research Global Health Research Centre for Multiple Long-Term Conditions (MLTC) aims to transform care for people with MLTC in India and Nepal by:
(a) co-designing, implementing and evaluating a contextually relevant, patient-centered, equity promoting, simple technology leveraged innovative health system intervention and
(b) strengthen national health research systems by capacity building, creating networks of MLTC researchers and key stakeholders, using ‘systems thinking’ approach at an individual, institutional and environmental level.
The Centre is co-led by the Centre for Chronic Disease Control and the University of Leicester (co-lead institutions) in partnership with the All India Institute for Medical Sciences, Jodhpur; Health Related Information Dissemination Amongst Youth, New Delhi; Kathmandu Medical College, Nepal (co-applicant institutions) and other partners.
The Centre will strengthen the research capacities and ecosystems of the co-applicant institutions and undertake extensive community engagement and involvement, as well as knowledge exchange activities. This meaningful engagement with patients, caregivers, healthcare providers, communities, and relevant stakeholders at every stage of research will enhance ‘mutual learning’ to effectively address MLTC in both countries and beyond.

NIHR Global Health Research Centres (GHR Centres) are partnerships between institutions in low and middle income countries and those in the UK that undertake research in non-communicable diseases. The Centres are part of NIHR’s commitment to investing in global health research in developing countries that are eligible to receive Official Development Assistance (ODA) from the UK aid budget.
